Down the Hall

The yellow streak is a real eyecatcher. The audience has two options where to look either following the dark magenta path to the corpse or guided by the characters gaze and the rifle to the the window Showing the audience around the picture can be supported by light-dark contrasts giving depth to the room.
Also important is the picture section you choose to display. The audience only knows what you show them! In this case showing where the two hallways meet gives the room more structure. Another thing are the color contrasts. The axe and blood blend in with the background. Use cold-warm contrasts to prevent this (green, blue etc.). Gradients and structure give the materials a more realistic touch.
